Dhorpatan travel Guide: Nepal’s Hidden Paradise

Where is Dhorpatan ?


Dhorpatan lies in Baglung District of Gandaki Province, extending into Myagdiand Rukum East districts. It is the only legal hunting reserve in Nepal and covers an area of approximately 1325 square kilometers. The region sits at an elevation ranging from 2850 meters to over 5500 meter above sea level.


6 Days Dhorpatan & Buki Patan Itinerary


Day 1: Kathmandu to Baglung


Distance: Approximately 275 km

Driving Time : 8-10 hours 


Your journey begins early in the morning from kathmandu. Drive along the Prithivi Highway. Passing through Naubise, mugling, Dumre, Pokhara, and finally Baglung.


  • Along the way you”ll enjoy 

  • Beautiful river valleys

  • Traditional nepal villages

  • Views of the annapurna range ( weather permitting)


After reaching Baglung, check into your hotel and spend the evening exploring the local market.


Overnight: Baglung


Day 2 : Baglung to Dhorpatan 

Distance : Approximately 130 km 

 After breakfast, continue your drive towards Dhorpatan via Burtibang. The road gradually climbs into the mountains, offering spectacular scenery throughout the journey 


Highlights :

  •  Nishi Khola valley

  • Pine and rhododendron forests

  • Scenic mountain landscapes


Arrive at Dhorpatan in the afternoon. Explore the surrounding valley and enjoy the peaceful

Himalayan atmosphere.

Overnight: Dhorpatan


Day 3 : Dhorpatan to Bukipatan 


Distance : Approximately 22-28 km

Travel Time : 5-7 hours by 4WD ( road condition vary)


Today’s journey takes you deeper into high Himalayas toward Buki Patan , one of western Nepal’s most beautiful alpine grasslands.


  • Along the route you”ll pass:

  • High mountain pastures

  • Crystal clear streams

  • Seasonal shepherd camps

  • Snow-capped Himalayan peaks

  • Rare alpine flora


Buki Patan is renowned for its vast open meadows and stunning mountain scenery. During spring and autumn , the area is especially beautiful.

 Enjoy sunset views over the Himalayas.

Overnight: Bukiu Patan ( Camp or Local Lodge)


Day 4: Explore Buki Patan & Return to Dhorpatan

Distance:m Approximately 22-28 km 

Travel time : 5-7 hours 


Wake up early to witness a magnificent Himalayan sunrise.


Spend the morning exploring


  • Alpine meadows 

  • Grazing yaks and sheep

  • Mountain photography spots

  • Peaceful landscapes


After Lunch, drive back to Dhorpatan 

over night: Dhorpatan


Day 5: Dhorpatan to Pokhara 

Distance : Approximately 235 km 

Driving time: 9-10 hours 


After breakfast, begin the return journey via burtibang,baglung and kushma before reaching Pokhara.


On arrival:

  • Relax by lakeside

  • Enjoy local restaurant and cafes

  • Take an evening walk beside phewa lake


Overnight: pokhara


Day 6: pokhara to Kathmandu 


Distance : Approximately 200 km

Driving Time: 6-8 hours


Enjoy breakfast before departing for kathmandu.


Drive through:


  • Mugling

  • Malekhu

  • Naubise


Arrive in Kathmandu in the evening with unforgettable memories of western Nepal’s hidden paradise.

Best Time to Visit


Spring (March-May): Rhododendron blooms, pleasant weather, excellent mountain views.

Autumn (September-November): Clear skies, stable weather, ideal for road trips and trekking.

Winter ( December-February): Snowfall at higher elevations: travel may be challenging.

Monsoon (June-August): :Lush greenery but muddy roads and possible landslides


Travel Tips

A 4WD vehicle is strongly recommended beyond Baglung, especially from Burtibang to Dhorpatan and onward to Buki Patan

Carry Warm clothing, even in summer, as temperature drop significantly at higher elevations.

Bring cash, as ATMs are not available in remote areas.

Mobile network coverage is limited beyond Burtibang

Respect Local communities and help preserve the natural environment.

Travel with experienced local drivers familiar with mountain roads.
